Important of Product Packaging
A technology that involves the concealment and protection of a product so that it can be distributed, stored and used is known as product packaging. We can also say it is a process that deals with designing, evaluating and producing packages for products. In other words we can say it is a coordinated system that makes sure goods or products are ready for transport, logistics, sale, ware housing and end use. It is considered a very useful technology for it protects, transports, contains, informs, preserves and sells the product. Governments, institutions, businesses, industries and individuals in their own venture tend to use this and it is done all over the globe.
Back in the early ages of time, packages were found to made up of natural materials which was available during that time. Wooden boxes, wooden barrels, pottery vases, wine skins, basket of reeds, ceramic amphorae, woven bags and the like are some of the examples of packages used.
There are other materials that were processed and used as packages and got developed with time like bronze and the early glass. Tinplate was invented in the modern age and it made it possible for people to store products in tins. The need to preserve food while transporting and also for a longer period brought about the idea of tin canning which was developed by inventors to improve tinning. Paper-based packaging was created by inventors after canning as got wiser. In the 20th century new materials were made and this boosted the development of product packaging on another level. These packages included transparent cellophane over wraps, Bakelite closures on bottles and also panels on cartons. To both developed developing and developed countries product packaging became very essential since then.
Product packing has many other uses than just packing in product for concealment. It provides physical protection to the product like protection from mechanical shock, electrostatic discharge, temperature and the like. Blurrier protection also comes with product packaging and it shields products from dust, water vapor, oxygen and so on. Product packaging also gives an opportunity to be able to transmit information to the consumers through the labeling the product on the external face of the package. Marketing has been made a quite easy when product packaging to effect and as it reached its true potential. Product packaging has cover also most every corner concerning security because there are packages that are tamper resistant in that they can deter manipulation of the package and they can also be tamper-evident meaning they can show if a package is tampered with or not. Packages are also designed to have features that add some kind of convenience in handling, display, distribution, reclosing, recycling, sale, stacking, ease in disposal and reusing.
